Tomorrow is the first of October and already my neighborhood has been decorated with plastic pumpkins for weeks. These last few months of the year go by really quickly and I wanted to get some Fall/Halloween themed patterns up for you guys as soon as possible. The other day, I was sitting at my desk and I just felt like knitting something quick and cute, so I whipped up this adorable baby pumpkin beanie in a couple of hours! The pattern is super simple and I think it’d be a great beginner’s project since it doesn’t require any fancy skills.

Baby Pumpkin Beanie Pattern
Finished Measurements:
12 inches circumference x 6.25 inches in height
Materials:
- 1 skein of orange yarn (I used I Love This Yarn in Burnt Pumpkin)
- scraps of green yarn
- 5.00mm circular needles (I used Knit Picks Options Interchangeable Needles for both)
- 6.00mm circular needles
Pattern:
1. With the 5.00mm needles and orange yarn, cast on 52 stitches using any cast on method. I used the knitted cast on because it makes for a stretchier edge.
2. Being careful not to twist the work, join to work in the round. K2, P2 for 8 rounds.
3. Switch to the 6.00mm needles. M1, k26, M1, k26. You should have a total of 54 stitches now.
4. *k8, p1*. Repeat from * to * all the way around. Continue working in this pattern until the piece measures 4.5 inches from the cast on edge. For me, that was 19 rounds.
5. *k7, p2tog* all the way around (48 stitches)
6. *k6, p2tog* all the way around (42 stitches)
7. *k5, p2tog* all the way around (36 stitches)
8. *k4, p2tog* all the way around (30 stitches)
9. *k3, p2tog* all the way around (24 stitches)
10. *k2, p2tog* all the way around (18 stitches)
11. *k1, p2tog* all the way around (12 stitches)
Cut the orange yarn, leaving a long tail, and attach the green yarn.
12. Knit for 7 rounds.
13. *p2tog* all the way around (6 stitches).
14. *p2tog* all the way around (3 stitches). BO and weave in all loose ends.
And that’s all there is to it! The beanie itself is super simple and follows just a basic pattern of a few rows of ribbing, several rows of the body of the beanie, and then a couple rows to shape the crown. Once you know how to do that, any beanie can be customized and designed to look like anything you want, just by changing colors and textures.
I love this baby pumpkin beanie, and I cannot wait to give it to someone tiny enough to wear it!
