It’s the spooky season! This October, I want to get as many ideas out as possible. I’ve always loved this time and all the fun creepy things about Halloween, but last year, I didn’t get to share some of the ideas I had. This year, I’m going crazy with the Sweet and Spooky Halloween plushies! Let’s dive right in with today’s Halloween crochet pattern, Frankie Stein!
The story of Frankenstein’s monster always makes me a little sad. All he really wanted was someone like him. He felt like an outcast. With our little Frankie here, it’s a bit of the same situation but our guy finds others like him. His best friend is Viktor the Vampire and they’re both a little odd. They accept each other though and have the best time together on their favorite holiday!
Frankie is an easy pattern to make. He’s just a bit taller and greener than some of the others, but he’s made of the same simple shapes. I kept the details minimal on my Frankenstein plushie, embroidering on some stitches across his forehead and giving him his signature bolts, but you can add as much as you like. Different colored outfits and maybe a long coat would be awesome on him!

Materials:
- 3.25mm/ D crochet hook – I like these Clover Amour ones
- #4 medium weight yarn
- I used Yarn Bee Soft Secret in Avocado Green, Cocoa, Coal, and Mist
- stitch markers – I like these locking ones and these split ring ones
- large eye needle – I like these blunt ones for seaming
- 9mm safety eyes – get a bunch of this size here or get a set of different sizes here
- polyfil stuffing – I like using this one or the big box!

Stitches & Abbreviations:
- Magic loop
- ch – chain
- SC – single crochet
- DC – double crochet
- HDC – half double crochet
- sl – slip stitch
- BO- bind off/fasten off
Pattern Notes:
- Skill level: Beginner/Intermediate – some amigurumi experience is helpful but not necessary
- Sizing: 14″ tall x 4″ across body
- Gauge: 6S X 5R per inch
Frankie Stein: Free Halloween Crochet Pattern
Arms (make 2):
Round 1: With green yarn, create a magic loop and work 6 SC into it. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 2: Inc in each space by working 2 SC into each (12).
Rounds 3-20: SC around for 18 rounds. Then BO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Legs (make 2):
Round 1: With green yarn, create a magic loop and work 6 SC into it. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 2: Inc in each space by working 2 SC into each (12).
Rounds 3-12: SC around for 10 rounds.
Rounds 9-28: Switch to brown and SC for 20 rounds. Then BO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Body:
Round 1: With yarn in brown, create a magic loop and work 6 SC into it. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 2: Inc in each space by working 2 SC into each (12).
Round 3: *SC, inc* around (18).
Round 4: *SC 2, inc* around (24).
Round 5: *SC 3, inc* around (30).
Round 6: *SC 4, inc* around (36).
Round 7: *SC 5, inc* around (42).
Rounds 8-13: SC around for 6 rounds. Then switch to the green yarn.
Rounds 14-16: SC around for 3 rounds.
Round 17: *SC 5, dec* around (36).
Round 18-19: SC around for 2 rounds.
Round 20: *SC 4, dec* around (30).
Rounds 21-22: SC around for 2 rounds.
Round 23: *SC 3, dec* around (24).
Rounds 24-25: SC around for 2 rounds
Round 26: *SC 2, dec* around (18). Then BO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Head:
Round 1: With yarn in black, create a magic loop and work 6 SC into it. Place a stitch marker.
Round 2: Inc in each space by working 2 SC into each (12).
Round 3: *SC, inc* around (18).
Round 4: *SC 2, inc* around (24).
Round 5: *SC 3, inc* around (30).
Round 6: *SC 4, inc* around (36).
Round 7: *SC 5, inc* around (42).
Round 8: *SC 6, inc* around (48).
Rounds 9-10: SC around for 2 rounds.
Round 11: SC 1 round alternating between black and green stitches. At the end of the round, cut the black yarn with some tail and continue with just the green.
Rounds 12-19: SC around for 8 rounds. Insert safety eyes to round 6 after the last increase round, about 5 stitches apart. Start to add the stuffing.
Round 20: *SC 6, dec* around (42).
Round 21: *SC 5, dec* around (36).
Round 22: *SC 4, dec* around (30).
Round 23: *SC 3, dec* around (24).
Round 24: *SC 2, dec* around (18). Finish adding stuffing.
Round 25: *SC, dec* around (12).
Round 26: Decrease around (6). Cut the yarn and thread tail through a tapestry needle. Run the needle under the front loops of each stitch and secure yarn. Weave in the end.
Bolts (make 2):
Round 1: With gray yarn, create a magic loop and work 8 SC into it.
Rounds 2-3: SC around for 2 rounds. BO, leaving a long tail to sew with later.
Assembly
Now that we have all the pieces done, all that’s left of this Halloween crochet pattern is to sew Frankie together! Add stuffing to all the pieces if you haven’t already. Start by using the long tail ends left on the legs onto the body. It helps to use pins to hold the legs in position while you sew. Then, align the arms on either side of the body and sew them in place as well.
Next, use the tails on the bolts to sew a bolt onto either side of the head and hide the ends of the yarn inside Frankie’s head. Finally, sew the body and head together, making sure it’s on straight!
To finish him off, use black embroidery thread to give him some stitches. This is super easy to do using basic straight stitches. And if you’re not a very neat stitcher, that’s fine, he’s Frankenstein after all!
And there he is! I loved making this Frankenstein Halloween crochet pattern. I had these at my craft fair last weekend and he was the top seller of the day. Seeing kids walk away from my booth with Frankie was the best feeling, and I hope you love yours as much as they did.
