Happy Halloween, friends! You may have noticed that I’m a big fan of the spooky and cute around this time of year. I already have patterns up for Frankie Stein, a vampire, a devil, a voodoo doll, and now it’s time to welcome our very own crochet witch! Meet Magda, the youngest potions master in her coven and possibly the sweetest witch you’ll ever know.

Magda’s story is an odd one. She doesn’t really know where she’s from or how she found herself living with an elderly witch in the woods, but she knows that witch was kind and always looked out for her. She gave Magda a home and taught her everything she knew about herbs and potions and spells and all kinds of magic.
Soon, Magda became the most talented potion brewer in the coven they belonged to. Potion making was a lot like baking, and Magda loved trying out new recipes, especially when she’s found all the plants needed from the woods around her home.
The pattern for Magda, our little crochet witch, is an easy one. I used simple shapes and basic stitches (single and double crochets only) to form her outfit and her body. I think this would be a fun pattern to add accessories and charms to so I left the outfit simple enough that you can add on other things, like beads and glitter.
The full free pattern is written out below. For those who’d prefer to print the pattern and take it with you for on-the-go and to markup as you go, you can buy the inexpensive printable PDF from my Etsy and Ravelry shops. The PDF is formatted without ads or comments, so it’s easy to read.

Trim: I added a little bit of trim to the hat by using green yarn and working 1 round of slip stitch around the base of the hat, before the DC rounds for the brim. Bind off and weave in the ends.
Hair:
For the hair, cut lengths of black yarn about 9-10 inches long ( you cn make them longer for longer hair). Then use your hook to pick a spot on the head where you want to attach the hair, fold the yarn in half, loop it over the hook, and pull up a loop. YO the ends and pull them through the loop.
Continue adding hair all the way around the head until you’re happy with the fullness and trim the ends to neaten it up. I left the top of the head bald because the hat will cover that anyways.
Assembly
Now that we have all the parts of our crochet witch done, we can start assembling her! Add stuffing to the legs, body, and arms if you haven’t already. Then use the tail yarn you left to sew the arms onto the body. Use the tail yarn from the legs to attach the legs to the body. It helps to use pins to hold everything in place as you sew.
Next, use the tail from the body to attach the head, going through one space on the body to one space on the head. Embroider on a nose with small stitches and the same yarn as the head. Finally, use hot glue to secure the hat in place on her head, adding a little bit of stuffing to help the hat stay up. You can also stitch this in place if you like.
