Are you ready for another free Halloween crochet pattern? Today’s plushie pattern is probably the cutest voodoo doll you’ve ever seen! This is Scrap and like my other plushie patterns, he’s pretty quick and easy to make. I try to use shapes and stitches that are simple and add details in other ways, and for Scrap, I used embroidery to really add character to this voodoo doll. Even if you’re new to embroidery, I hope you give this pattern a try. Everything is explained in the pattern so let’s get into it!

Unlike most voodoo dolls, Scrap was never bound to anyone. Instead, he was charmed by a young witch to come to life and live as he wished. Scrap stayed with the witch and they became fast friends, going foraging together in the woods for potion ingredients and spending the evenings practicing spells and making things. The witch noticed that whenever she left out bits of yarn and little oddments of paper, her friend would gobble them all up! And so she named him Scrap.
As I mentioned, this pattern uses some basic embroidery stitches to add details to this voodoo doll’s body. For the most part, it’s just a running stitch, but I’ll be sure to link to some videos to guide you through it. But don’t be intimidated if embroidery isn’t your thing! Scrap is a doll, so the stitches can be as haphazard as you like and it will still look great.

Stitching
Almost done with this free Halloween crochet pattern! It’s easiest to do the stitching before you assemble all the pieces of the voodoo doll together. Start by adding stuffing to all the pieces. Thread a needle with a long length of black embroidery floss and tie the ends together so you’re working with the thread doubled.
Then, bring the needle from the inside of a piece to the outside along the center (the body and arms are the same, but the head and the legs have a front). I used a running stitch along the pieces, and there’s a tutorial for it here. Bring the needle down into the piece about 2 rows down, and back up through the fabric after another two rows. Pull the floss through and you should see how the stitching is made. Continue all the way around on all of the pieces, tying off the floss on the inside each time.
For the smile, work a line of stitches across the face with a back stitch, using the rows as a guide. Once you get to the end, bring the needle under each stitch loop to connect the gaps and make the line smoother. Then add a few extra stitches vertically along the line.
Assembly
Now that we have all the pieces done, all that’s left of this Halloween crochet pattern is to sew Scrap together! Start by using the long tail ends left on the legs to attach them onto the body, making sure to note which way the legs are facing. It helps to use pins to hold the legs in position while you sew.
Then, align the arms on either side of the body and sew them in place as well. Finally, sew the body and head together, making sure it’s on straight. The stitch lines should help you to line all the pieces up, especially with the head and body.
And you’re done! I love how Scrap turned out and I think he’s just the cutest thing. Not only can you use him as a toy for Halloween or as a decoration, but you can also just use him as your pin cushion year-round. It would be so funny to see how people react to it!
